I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than being a Celebrant with Humanist Society Scotland. Much of my work is on Skye, but anywhere in Scotland suits me, where I create ceremonies that feel personal, relaxed, and rooted in these extraordinary settings.

I’ve always been a Humanist at heart, even before the term became part of everyday conversation. For me, Humanism is about treating others with respect while holding onto a secular view of the world.

Before this, I worked in business development at Dundee University. It was a people-focused role, and I loved that side of it. Meeting people, learning their stories – that’s something that has stayed with me. Now, I sit with couples and families to shape moments that matter, often in places as breathtaking as Scotland’s coastlines and landscapes.

I’m a big traveller (80-odd countries) – I’ve already seen a lot of the world, and there’s still so much more I’d like to see. I seem to add to the list faster than I can tick places off. Travel, for me, is about understanding people – something that helps enormously when working with couples coming to Scotland from overseas, particularly from the United States.

And wherever you go, you see that people mark the same key milestones. The birth of a child changes everything. A marriage brings two lives together. And when the time comes, we remember and celebrate a life that’s been lived. These are the moments that shape us – and whether on Skye or elsewhere in Scotland, I feel lucky to be part of them.
